Honest motor get more and more electric motorcycle orders especially in 2023 because the request of the new energy vehicles are increased a lot,but different markets and regions have different demands for the lithium batteries.Today, Honest Motor technical team will introduce the difference of our two commonly used lithium batteries - ternary lithium(NCM) and lithium iron phosphate(LFP).Firstly, the cells of these two lithium batteries have different shapes in the form of prismatic, cylindrical and pouch. Our electric models currently use cylindrical cells. Next, we will explain these two types in details.

1 Introduction:

Ternary lithium battery: a lithium battery with a ternary material (lithium nickel cobalt manganate or lithium nickel cobalt aluminate) as the cathode,usually we call it NCM or NCA,Honest electric models are using NCM as cathode.

Lithium iron phosphate battery: a lithium battery with lithium iron phosphate(LFP) as cathode.

2. The difference of ternary lithium(NCM) and lithium iron phosphate(LFP):

-The energy density:

the energy density of the ternary lithium battery(NCM) is about 200Wh/kg, while the lithium iron phosphate battery(LFP) is about 130wh/kg.

-The Safety Level: 

The thermal runaway temperature of ternary lithium(NCM) is at 200°C while the lithium iron phosphate(LFP) is 800°C,which is much more safe.

-The efficiency at low temperature: 

At -20°C, the charging efficiency of ternary lithium(NCM) is three times that of lithium iron phosphate(LFP), and the battery capacity can reach 80% of the normal temperature, while the lithium iron phosphate(LFP) can only reach 50%.

-The cycle charge life: 

Our lithium iron phosphate(LFP) can reach 2000-3000 times, while ternary lithium is about 500-1000 times.

3. Summary:

As you can see,the LFP battery has high temperature resistance, long life and good safety, while NCM battery has small volume and weight and higher efficiency at low temperature. Therefore, in areas where the temperature is above 0°C,we recommend you to choose our models with NCM battery(HN20e-35A,HN20e-7,HN15e-14B,HN20e-14C,HN20e-14D,HN15e-14,HN30e-13,HN30e-12...) and in an area below -10°C and you need it charge very frequently, please choose our model with LFP battery(HN30e-40).
