Motorcycle fasteners are used to connect various parts of a motorcycle. They are like buttons and seams on clothes,which directly connect to the stability and appearance of the motorcycle. Today, Honest Motor technical team will show you details about motorcycle fasteners.

1,The strength of motorcycle fasteners:

Usually we divided fasteners by its strength as follows:

Metric bolts are divided into: 4.6, 4.8, 5.6, 6.8, 8.8, 9.8, 10.9, 12.9

Metric nuts are divided into: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12

Lets take bolts of grade 8.8 as an example,the first “8” means its tensile strength is 800MPa. The second “8” means its yield strength is 80% of the tensile strength, which is 640MPa.

For the nuts of grade 8, its strength is the same as the bolts with grade 8.8, so when we choose nuts, the strength must be same or higher grade than the bolts.

2,How Honest Motor team choose Bolts and nuts:

For most models, we use 8.8, 10.9 bolts (matching grade 8, grade 10 or higher nuts). There are also a few high-strength models that use 12.9 bolts, so when you repair, please replace the bolts and nuts that are same or higher than our original grade.

3,The best torque range for Bolts and nuts:

Besides the strength of the fasteners,the assemble torque is also very important,because too much torque will damage the fasteners, while Insufficient torque can’t firmly connect the structural parts. Based on the commonly used fastener types of our motorcycles(bolts 8.8/10.9,nuts 8/10/12), we recommend the following torque values:
